Signs Your Well Pump Needs Attention
Out in rural Sacramento County, many homes depend on a private well and a pump to bring water up and push it through the house. Most well pump problems give some warning first:
- No water at any faucet
- Pressure that surges, sputters or drops off during a shower
- The pump turning on and off rapidly, often called short cycling
- Air spitting from faucets
- Sand, silt or muddy water that wasn’t there before
- A higher electric bill from a pump that runs too long
- A tripped breaker that keeps tripping
Well Pump Repair and Replacement
Not every no-water call means a dead pump. We start with the simple and common causes, like the breaker, the pressure switch, wiring and the pressure tank, before we pull anything out of the well. That saves you money when the fix is above ground.
Well Pump Repair
Many well problems are in the controls rather than the pump itself. A worn pressure switch, a failed control box part or a bad connection can stop water just as surely as a burned-out motor. We test each part of the system, find the failure and repair it.
Well Pump Replacement
When the pump itself has failed, we replace it with one sized to your well and your household. Most rural homes here have a submersible pump down in the well. Some older or shallow setups use an above-ground jet pump. We match the pump to the well depth and the water you need, connect it, and test pressure and flow before we leave.
If the problem is the well itself, such as a dropping water table or a failing casing, that’s work for a well driller. We’ll tell you honestly if that’s what we find.
Pressure Tanks and Pressure Switches
The pressure tank is the part of a well system people forget about, and it’s behind a lot of pump failures.
Pressure Tanks
A pressure tank stores water under pressure so the pump doesn’t have to start every time you open a faucet. Inside is an air charge, usually held by a bladder or diaphragm. When that bladder fails or the air charge is lost, the tank fills with water and the pump starts short cycling. That wears a pump out early. We check the air charge, recharge it when that’s all it needs and replace waterlogged or leaking tanks with ones sized to your pump.
Pressure Switches and Gauges
The pressure switch tells the pump when to turn on and off. Its contacts wear and its tube can clog with sediment. A small part, but when it fails you lose water. We replace worn switches and gauges and set them to the right range for your tank.
Well Service for Rural Sacramento County
We know the farm and country homes south and east of Elk Grove. In places like Wilton, Galt, Clarksburg and Hood, homes often have both a well and a septic system, so one call to us covers both. We also handle septic services, from finding the lid to pumping and repairs.
Well water can carry sediment, iron or bacteria, and a new pump is a good time to look at it. Our water treatment page covers filters, softeners and UV systems for wells.
Here’s how we work: we come out, diagnose the system, give you a free estimate on site and start only after you approve it. Then we make the repair, test pressure and flow and close you out. Most new installs carry a one-year warranty on leaks and labor, and you can qualify for financing right from your estimate. If you have no water at all, call us. We take emergency calls every day, Sundays included.
