Signs Your Water Heater Needs Repair
Most water heaters give warning signs before they fail. Catching them early can turn a flooded garage into a simple repair. Call us if you notice any of these:
- Hot water that runs out faster than it used to
- Rumbling, popping or knocking sounds from the tank
- Rusty or cloudy hot water
- Water pooling around the base, or a dripping relief valve
- A pilot light that won’t stay lit, or a burner that won’t fire
- A rotten-egg smell from the hot water
Tank Water Heater Repair
A lot of problems are fixable. We replace thermocouples, gas valves, heating elements, thermostats, relief valves and anode rods. Hard water is common around Sacramento, and the sediment it leaves behind is behind many of the noises and slow recovery we see. If a repair makes sense, we’ll tell you. If the tank itself is leaking, repair is no longer an option, and we’ll explain why before we talk about replacement.
Water Heater Replacement and Installation
Replacement
When a tank is old, rusting through or costing more in repairs than it’s worth, water heater replacement is the better buy. We size the new unit to your household, haul the old one away and test everything before we leave.
Installation and Code Upgrades
A new install isn’t just swapping tanks. California requires water heaters to be strapped for earthquakes, and many homes also need venting, gas connections or relief lines brought up to current code. If your setup needs that work, you’ll see it on the estimate before we start. No surprises once the truck arrives.
Gas-to-Electric Conversions
Thinking about going electric? We handle the plumbing side, safely cap the old gas line and set the new unit. Electric models often need a dedicated circuit, so we’ll tell you up front if your panel needs work from an electrician. Many homeowners making this switch look at heat pump water heaters, which use far less energy than standard electric tanks.
Navien and Bradford White Certified Installs
We are a certified installer for Navien and Bradford White water heaters, and we can get you whatever equipment your home needs. If you want endless hot water, ask about tankless water heaters. Our guide to tank vs. tankless water heaters in Sacramento walks through the trade-offs.
Flushing, Expansion Tanks and Recirculation Pumps
Flushing and Maintenance
Sediment settles at the bottom of every tank. In hard water it builds faster, insulates the water from the burner and wears the tank out sooner. A regular flush, along with a check of the anode rod and relief valve, helps your water heater last. If hard water is the root problem, water softeners protect the heater and every fixture in the house.
Expansion Tanks
Water expands as it heats. In homes with a pressure regulator or check valve, that extra pressure has nowhere to go, so it strains the tank, the relief valve and your pipes. An expansion tank gives it room. We check for one on every install and replace waterlogged tanks that have stopped doing their job.
Recirculation Pumps
If you wait a long time for hot water at the far end of the house, a recirculation pump keeps hot water close to your fixtures. It saves time and water you would otherwise run down the drain while you wait.
