Running and Leaking Toilets
Running Toilets
A toilet that keeps running or refills on its own usually has a worn flapper, a bad fill valve or a chain that’s too short. Hard water is common in our area, and mineral buildup wears these parts out faster. We replace what’s failed and adjust the water level so the toilet flushes properly without waste.
Leaks at the Base
Water around the base of the toilet usually means the wax ring has failed. Left alone, it soaks the subfloor and can cause rot or mold. We pull the toilet, replace the seal, check the flange and reset the toilet so it’s solid and sealed.
Tank and Supply Leaks
Drips from the tank bolts, the supply line or the shut-off valve are often simple fixes. We replace corroded supply lines and stiff shut-off valves while we’re there, so you can turn the water off when you need to.
Toilet Clogs
Most clogs clear with a plunger. If yours doesn’t, or it keeps coming back, something else is going on. We clear the toilet and check whether the problem is in the toilet itself or further down the line.
If more than one drain is backing up, or the toilet gurgles when the washer drains, the blockage may be in the main line. Our drain cleaning service clears it, and a sewer camera inspection shows whether roots or a broken pipe are to blame. Many older Sacramento homes still have cast-iron or clay sewer lines that roots love.
Toilet Replacement and Installation
Sometimes a new toilet is the smarter buy. Consider toilet replacement if yours:
- Has a crack in the bowl or tank
- Clogs often even with normal use
- Needs repairs again and again
- Is an older model that uses far more water per flush than new ones
- Wobbles because of a damaged flange
What’s Included
We remove and haul away the old toilet, check and repair the flange, install the new toilet with a fresh seal and supply line, and test it for leaks and a strong flush. We can install a toilet you’ve picked out or help you choose one, including comfort-height models and bidet seats. Most new installs carry a one-year warranty on leaks and labor.
