Gas Leak Detection and Repair
If you smell rotten eggs, hear hissing near a gas line, or see dead grass or bubbling water over a buried line, you may have a gas leak. Take it seriously.
If You Smell Gas
Leave the house first. Don’t flip switches, light anything or use your phone inside. Once you’re outside and away from the house, call your gas utility or 911. When the immediate danger is handled and the gas is shut off, call us to find and fix the leak. We take emergency calls every day, Sundays included.
Finding the Leak
We use leak detection equipment and pressure tests to find where the gas is escaping, whether it’s a loose fitting behind the stove, a corroded flex connector at the water heater or a failed buried line in the yard. Then we repair or replace that section and test the whole system before turning it back on.
Gas Line Installation
Adding a gas appliance or remodeling a kitchen often means running a new line. We size the pipe to the total load of every appliance in the house, so nothing is starved for gas when the furnace, water heater and range all run at once.
Appliance Hookups
We install and connect gas lines for ranges and cooktops, gas dryers, fireplaces and fireplace inserts, and outdoor grills, fire pits and outdoor kitchens. Every hookup gets a new shut-off valve and an approved connector, and we check each connection for leaks before we light the appliance.
Gas Lines for Water Heaters
A tankless water heater usually needs more gas than the old tank it replaces, so the line feeding it often has to be upsized. We handle the gas line and the water heater install as one job.
Gas Line Repair and Gas Main Repair
Gas Line Repair
Gas lines wear out. Older homes may still have aging steel pipe, and flex connectors behind appliances can crack or corrode. We replace damaged sections with approved materials and fittings, and we never patch a gas line with a quick fix that won’t hold.
Gas Main Repair
The buried line from the meter to your house is your responsibility, not the utility’s. The Delta clay soils around Sacramento swell and shrink with the seasons, and that movement can stress buried pipe over the years. Tree roots, digging and old corroded pipe cause breaks too. We dig, repair or replace the line, and test it before anything is buried again.
Gas Pressure Testing and Safe Work
Pressure Testing
After any new line or repair, we pressure test the system to confirm it holds with no drop. It’s also the right test when you suspect a slow leak, or when an inspection or home sale calls for one.
Permits and Inspections
Many gas jobs need a permit and a city or county inspection. We’ll tell you when yours does, and we test everything before we close you out. Our tagline is “We do it right the first time,” and on gas work that is the only way to do it.
